Balmazújváros is a typical country town of the Great Plain. It’s located in Debrecen-Hajdúszoboszló-Hortobágy tourism triangle. The city is surrounded by the Hajdúsági loess, the Hortobágy wasteland and the Hortobágy National Park.
In the Middle Age Balmazújváros has country town rank but Újváros only in 1989 rose to city rank. The city is a member of the Hajdú Cities League. Nearby, you can find Hortobágy, Tiszacsege and Újszentmargita villages.
Balmazújváros tries to protect the local values. In the last decade, they restored our catholic and protestant churches, Peter Veres author’s childhood home, the city hall which build in eclectic style and the baroque styled Local History Museum.
The classicistic Castle Semsey and the local thermal bath could be interesting too.
